The Aztec Print {Fashion Friday} bilingual

Before it goes out of style (since this trend started in 2009), I will tell you about a pattern that I love and simply can't get enough of — the Aztec print.
Who knows?, this may be something that continues trending through 2014 but many fashion houses featured this tribal design for the first time, several years ago.
Either way, I think it’s fun and refreshing and the print pattern suits any skin tone and any body type due to its busy and colorful nature.
Best of all, there are tons of ways to wear a single piece of Aztec-patterned clothing!
For example, a pair of pants with this print design goes well with flip-flops on a beach outing, with snow boots on a ski trip, with heels on a night out, wedges on a casual shopping trip or flats around the house. It's truly versatile.
So who was the first designer to capitalize on the pattern?
None other than my absolute favorite designer of all time, Italian icon Emilio Pucci!
Along with Pucci, English fashion designer Matthew Williamson also used Aztec prints and introduced his version of them to the world in his Spring-Summer 2009 collection.
In 2011, Missoni (Italian Fashion house) and Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B fashion line incorporated the prints to their collections.
And just for background: the Aztec people were an indigenous population who ruled central and southern Mexico in the 15th and early 16th centuries.
It’s pretty amazing to see people wear the Aztec print…makes me proud.

Kneaders Restaurant & Bakery in Yuma, AZ {Tasty Thursday} bilingual

A recent business trip to Yuma, Arizona turned out to be quite pleasant, especially when it came to dining.
I found a quaint restaurant and bakery named “Kneaders” across the street from my hotel.
The best way to describe Kneaders— just think Panera Bread with a little more of a quaint, artisan feel and the most incredible bread aromas.
Kneaders has four locations in Arizona and can only be found in three other states: Colorado, Idaho and Utah.
It offers a breakfast and lunch menu. I wish I could’ve had breakfast there too.
My lunch consisted of a soup and sandwich.
The soup was artichoke & mushroom and the sandwich was chicken pesto on French country bread. Oh yeah, and for dessert I had a heart-shaped, pink glazed sugar cookie. Everything was delicious.
But the best thing of all (and part of the reason why I decided to blog about Kneaders) is that the restaurant knows how to share the wealth! Their popular meal recipes are posted online for all to try and enjoy:  https://kneaders.com

Finding the perfect running shoe

I’ve learned a few rules about buying the perfect pair of running shoes before a long-distance race.
These are things I wish I would have known earlier, like when I first started running!
The first thing to keep in mind is the type of race that you will be doing. Nowadays, there are shoes made for every type of terrain and surface so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find shoes that cater to the particular surface you will be running on.
Second, a runner should purchase their shoes well ahead of time in order to break them in before race day.
You should NEVER run in a brand new pair because you never know how your feet will react to the shoe. I’ve read horror stories of bleeding and painful feet because the runner didn’t have a chance to train with the shoes beforehand. I took this risk myself, before my first half marathon but fortunately, I got extremely lucky!
The third rule is: purchase your running shoes a half size bigger than your regular shoe size.
This is necessary because the foot tends to swell after a long, grueling run. In order to avoid discomfort, all runners should do themselves a favor and purchase their shoes a little bigger than their normal shoe size.
These may seem obvious pieces of advice but trust me, your feet will appreciate the consideration.
Happy Running!
