Real Life Disney Look-Alikes

Something about real people looking like Disney Characters always intrigues.
Los Angeles Magazine once ran a story about a guy who worked at Disneyland as Captain Jack Sparrow. This guy was fired from the theme park and went on an anti-Disney tirade but what caught my attention was the part of the interview where he told the magazine some pretty crazy stories of how women went wild over him while he was in character!
I guess it was the Johnny Depp appeal but in general, there's always interest in people who look like famous movie characters.
Every so often, publications release photo galleries of real Disney look-alikes and I couldn't help but gather my own top 10 from around the web and do the same for my blog.
Of course, I did a bit of research on each individual, and though there were some I simply couldn't locate, here's a bit of information on most of these famous-looking individuals:

1. As Captain Jack Sparrow -- Simon Newton. Canadian English actor who has actually acted as Johnny Depp's double in real movie scenes due to his striking resemblance. He travels all over the world to perform as the famous swashbuckling pirate...and does a darn good job too. (Update: Totally stoked that Simon read this entry and commented below...he corrected me on his country of origin).

 2. As Pocahontas -- Sherri Lansang. Philippino Model from Long Beach,CA. Sherri is a model who also happens to be a registered nurse. A social media site indicates she lives in Las Vegas and also works as a VIP host for a fancy nightclub inside the Bellagio Hotel & Casino

3./4. Mr Fredricksen and Russell from Up -- I couldn't find information on either of the Up Movie superstars. There's a Facebook page for the little boy but it seems to be a fan page because it doesn't provide a name, city or any other detail on the little cutie. As far as Mr. Fredricksen, I came up with nothing at all. I did find, however, that this picture might have been enhanced to make the man's nose a bit wider.

5. As Ariel from The Little Mermaid-- Traci Hines. This young woman from Orange County, CA is hugely popular mainly due to her own efforts of imitating the real life mermaid princess. She is a singer/songwriter and has a website (www.tracihines.com) with thousands of visitors and a music video rendition of Ariel's "Part of Your World" (You've got to check it out!). She also has a clothing line called Adorkable with Mermaid-themed clothing.

6. As Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid--Leo Camacho. A Southern California artist, Leo can be seen in Traci Hines' Music video playing, well, Prince Eric. Leo has his own artist website and Youtube Channel and has quite a following!

7. As Buzz Lightyear--It's a 3D Image. Unbelieveable, I know... This real-looking Buzz is a computer-generated 3D image created by Brazilian graphic artist Raoni Nery. Nery explains that he created this digital image of a what he believes a real Buzz Lightyear would have to look like. I'm sure there's a guy somewhere out there that looks like this...

8. As Jessica Rabbit -- Courtney Elyse Black. Courtney was one of several women photographed by Ryan Astimendi in a Disney Princess themed photo shoot. Isn't she stunning? She's a model and music video vixen.

9. As Alfredo Linguini from Ratatouille-- Unknown! If anyone knows the name of this young man, I'd like to know to give him proper credit. I spent quite a while trying to get a name, a nationality, background, something! But I wasn't successful.

10. As Princess Jasmine from Aladdin-- Kim Kardashian! Despite the controversies and reality TV show drama, I think Kim K. is a gorgeous Princess Jasmine look-alike. The skin tone, the hair, the pretty almond eyes and curves...she's the best physical representation of the Arabian princess, I think.

The Fashionable Ladies of the So Cal Blogger Society {Fashion Friday}

Cinnamon Rolls and Mimosas go well together. And so do a bunch of ladies from all over Southern California who blog about fashion, beauty and lifestyle.
I learned that last Sunday when about 30 of us from the So Cal Bloggers Society got together for brunch at Areal Restaurant in Santa Monica (think goat cheese omelets, red quinoa bowls and bacon whiskey in an outdoor setting, close to the beach).
It was a perfect way to network and chat with ladies who love to look good and share with the world how they do it!
I didn't have a chance to talk to every blogger there (time flies when you're having fun!) but you can visit the So Cal Blogger Society website for a full directory.
Meantime, here's a snippet of a few of the ladies I did get to meet:
Our event host, Alex Valenzuela, has been writing her Stylelista Confessions fashion blog for five years now. She organized the brunch and did a marvelous job!
Kristi Elong shared stories about covering New York Fashion Week and will soon be hosting a fashion blogger event of her own, in San Francisco: Currently Crushing
I also met Samantha Smith who works for the Hollywood Reporter and happens to have the cutest clothes and style: What Would Kiki Wear

Overall, it was simply a great morning full of hotties, foodies and goodies.

Los rollitos de canela y las mimosas van bien juntos. Y también lo hacen un montón de mujeres de todo el sur de California que tienen su blog sobre modas, belleza y estilo de vida.
El domingo pasado 34 pertenecientes del “So Cal Bloggers Society” nos reunimos para desayunar en el restaurante Areal en Santa Mónica (omelets de queso de cabra, platillos de quinua rojo y whisky con tocino en un escenario al aire libre, cerca de la playa).

Fun with Fideo {Tasty Thursday}

If you grew up in a Mexican home, then chances are you enjoyed Fideo throughout your childhood.

Fideo is a traditional noodle recipe that reportedly originated in Mexico. It’s easy to make, very tasty and can be served either as a soup, a side dish or a main course, depending on how it’s prepared.

One day when I picked up Benny from daycare, his babysitter told me he had eaten like a champion that day. I asked what she had made for lunch and she replied: “Fideo”.

Needless to say, it’s become a popular dish at our home because it’s true…Benny loves it!

Vermicelli pasta is used to make Fideo.

It’s cooked in a little bit of olive oil until it browns.

Meanwhile, I chop a small onion, tomatoes and a garlic clove, liquefy them in a blender and add the mixture to the browned vermicelli. Many people use Knorr chicken bouillon seasoning to add flavor but it contains MSG and we're trying to stay away from that particular ingredient (MSG is a flavor enhancer that's been linked to some pretty bad health issues). Instead of Knorr, I simply add salt to taste.

Also, Benny is really independent and refuses to let others feed him. This means I have to avoid making soupy Fideo to avoid an even bigger mess than what we experience daily during meal time!

My fideo recipe is more of a pasta and I add a little bit of queso fresco to give it the additional degree of yummy.

Si tu creciste en un hogar mexicano, entonces seguramente has disfrutado de la rica sopa de Fideo.

Fideo es una receta tradicional, que al parecer se originó en México. Es fácil de hacer, muy sabroso y se puede servir como una sopa, un tentempié  o un plato principal, dependiendo de cómo se prepare.

Un día cuando fui por Benny a la guardería, la niñera me dijo que había comido como un campeón ese día. Le pregunté lo que había hecho para almorzar y me respondió: "Fideo" .

Cabe mencionar que el fideo se ha convertido en un platillo popular en nuestra casa porque es verdad... a Benny le encanta!

La pasta Vermicelli se utiliza para hacer el Fideo.

Se fríe en un poco de aceite hasta que se dora.

Mientras tanto, se corta una pequeña cebolla, unos dos o tres tomates y un diente de ajo. Luego estos se licúan y se añaden al fideo que para ese entonces ya debería estar doradito. Muchas personas utilizan el sazonador de pollo Knorr Suiza, que contiene el ingrediente MSG. Siendo que Paul y yo estamos tratando de evitar el consumo de MSG, que ha sido relacionado a problemas de salud bastante malos. En lugar de Knorr Suiza, nosotros le añadimos sal al gusto.

Ahora bien, como Benny es realmente independiente y se niega a dejar que otros lo alimenten, procure hacer el Fideo algo espeso para evitar un desastre a la hora de comer!

Mi receta de fideo contiene un poco de queso fresco para darle otro aspecto delicioso a la sopita.

Using an Elementary School as a Workout Location

My husband and I try to work out together as often as possible.
He pushes me; I try to keep up and everyone benefits (including Benny who likes to imitate mommy doing squats and asks to be lifted up to the pull-up bar).
The other day, we realized that making use of a neighboring elementary school playground to complete our daily workout routine would be a great idea. (We like to change out exercising venues to keep things fresh).
So we headed over to the school whose gates were open because the local little league was having softball practice.
Benny was hilariously dressed as what Paul described a "miniature grafitti artist" (I guess his outfit reminded him of former high school "tagger" friends...LOL).
We worked on arms, cardio and legs.
The arm workout was particularly fun because I had a chance to attempt climbing a pole (fail), use the monkey bars and keep working on my pull-ups.
We're kinda' sure we'll be back there soon.

Mi esposo y yo hacemos lo posible por coincidir con los horarios para hacer ejercicios juntos.
Él me empuja, yo trato de alcanzarlo y todos nos beneficiamos (incluyendo Benny, que le gusta imitar a mamá haciendo sentadillas y pide que lo levantemos a la barra de ejercicios).
El otro día, pensamos que hacer uso del patio del recreo de una escuela primaria para completar nuestra rutina de ejercicios sería una gran idea. (Nos gusta cambiar de lugar para mantener las cosas frescas).
Así que nos dirigimos a la escuela, cuyas puertas estaban abiertas porque la liga de béisbol infantil estaba practicando.
Benny estaba vestido como un "artista de grafiti miniatura" (descripción de Paul que supongo hizo porque la vestimenta de Benny le recordó a amigos "tagger" que tuvo en la prepa).
En este día nos enfocamos en entrenamiento de los brazos, piernas y actividades cardiovasculares.
El entrenamiento de los brazos fue especialmente divertido porque tuve la oportunidad de intentar escalar un poste (mala idea), utilice los pasamanos y seguí intentando las dominadas (pull-ups).
Estamos casi seguros de que volveremos pronto a la escuelita esta.

Peanuts by Schulz Coming to Theaters in November 2015!

Peanuts is a cartoon created by Charles Schulz that ran as a popular comic strip in newspapers nationwide, from 1950 through 2000.
The cartoon strip, whose main character is a young boy named Charlie Brown, was among "the most popular and influential in the history of the comic strip" with nearly 18,000 published strips, according to an article written for Canadian magazine, Macleans.
The cartoon's popularity pretty much led to the development of a billion-dollar entertainment empire for Schulz with books, movies and a plethora of projects, including theatrical productions and theme parks created around Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang.
In recent years, many parents have criticized the cartoon, deeming it "inappropriate for kids" due to the use of words such as "stupid" and because the cartoon tends to present Charlie Brown as a constant victim of bullying.
What these parents probably haven't taken into consideration though, is that the cartoon offers a great platform to discuss sensitive subjects.
Charlie Brown was created by Schulz based on difficult experiences lived during his own formative years. The cartoon in many ways tells the story of his childhood but touches on topics that can help parents have open dialogue with their children.
In a 1990 Peanuts Special, for example, a little girl named Janice Emmons is diagnosed with cancer. The episode covers an array of experiences for the young cancer victim and her friends. In the end, it's presumed the young girl recovers...but don't you think something like this gives young viewers a great opportunity to have a family discussion about real life situations and what illnesses can do to people?
Overall, I think Peanuts is a light-hearted cartoon and my son Benny has already taken a liking to Charlie Brown's fun and dynamic little pet beagle, Snoopy.
Charles Schulz passed away in 2000 but his son and grandson have made it a point to let the famous cartoon cast live on. They've collaborated on a major big screen production with 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios.

Peanuts by Schulz will arrive in theaters next year, in November 2015!!!

The first Peanuts movie in over 30 years promises to endear audiences young and old with the classic tale of life's obstacles, seen through the eyes of the Peanuts gang.
For now, I invite you to check our the trailer below...it's a one-minute glimpse of this movie, whose characters will certainly bring back memories of the days our parents read the newspaper at the breakfast table and pulled out the comics section for us.

Disneyland's Exclusive Club 33 {Mickey Monday}

There's an opportunity for the ultimate Disney fan to pay $35,000 and join the ranks of the Disney elite.
Besides the $35k, they would also have to pay $11,000 in annual dues.
To most of us, the purchase of a Club 33 Platinum membership is unrealistic. 
But for those who have money to spare and a serious love for the mouse house, joining Club 33 offers a way to enjoy the finer things Disney has to offer.
For a long time, the private and prestigious Club 33 at Disneyland had a 10-year waiting list... yes, apparently, there are that many people with a serious desire to indulge in such Mickey-themed luxuries.
Walt Disney initially designated Club 33 as a private and exclusive restaurant and lounge inside Disneyland to entertain special VIP guests. It's located in New Orleans square next to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the entrance is a green door with the number "33" on it.
Today, Club 33 members get unlimited dinner reservations (for up to fifty guests) to the restaurant, where they get to enjoy gourmet meals and specialty cocktails (it's the only place in Disneyland where alcohol is served) and most uniquely is a chance to bask in the glow of original movie props used in Disney movies.
Club 33 membership also comes with Premier Disney annual passes. A premier annual pass covers admission to ALL Disney theme parks in the US. Membership also provides access to VERY limited availability special events, VIP tours, access to "Magic Morning" Hours, a chance to ride in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain Steamboat, among many other incredible perks.
Currently, Club 33 is going through a refurbishment and the Walt Disney Company announced on its blog that it will re-open membership when the restaurant is ready, in the Fall!
