Plaid at the Park (Fashion Friday)

Who says mommies can't match their little boys?

On this sunny park outing, Benny and I decided to enjoy a nice grassy space and search for ladybugs wearing blue & orange plaid shirts and jean shorts.

We both wore white tanks underneath and brown shoes to keep things neutral.

Once we played for a while, discovering plants and chasing each other, we walked across the street to the public library!

This turned out to be a very easy and affordable look.

¿Quién dice que las mamás no pueden combinar con sus niños?
En esta salida al parque, Benny y yo decidimos disfrutar de una agradable tarde corriendo y luego buscando mariquitas entre el zacate. Portamos camisa de cuadros color azul y naranja y pantalones cortos de mezclilla.
Los dos llevábamos camisitas blancas debajo y zapatos de color café para mantener las cosas de tono neutral.
Una vez que jugamos por un buen rato ¡cruzamos la calle para visitar la biblioteca pública!

Where to eat in Dusseldorf, Germany

Pretzels, Bratwurst, Beer and Polka Music.
Those were my expectations for food & fun in Germany.
We enjoyed all of the above but nothing stands out more than the meal experience we had at the Restaurant Langhardt... with a  Biergarten "im hof" or in the courtyard.
I'll make a long story short and say that Benny, Paul and I enjoyed a feast for the ages.
We had the most delicious cuts of exquisitely seasoned meat, including sausage, filet mignon, thick slabs of bacon, chicken, an abundance of fries and beer. Can't foget the beer.
Paul and I declared this dinner the "mealus glorius maximus of the 20th and 21st century".
Seriously, the photos do not do it justice.
For dessert, we had the most flavorful, mouth-watering crepe that far outdid any crepe we tried in Paris.
And the total bill was the equivalent of $48.00. Unbelievable.
So, if you're ever in Dusseldorf, Germany with an appetite for some seriously grub-alicious protein, this place is the place to go.

Pretzels, Bratwurst, cerveza y música tipo Polka.
Esas eran mis expectativas de comida y diversión en Alemania.
Y ciertamente disfrutamos de todo lo anterior, pero nada resalta más que la experiencia que tuvimos en el restaurante Langhardt ... con un Biergarten "im Hof" o en el patio.
Benny, Paul y yo gozamos de un manjar para los archivos de la historia.
Disfrutamos de los más deliciosos cortes de carne exquisitamente sazonados, incluyendo salchicha, filete mignon, losas gruesas de tocino, pollo, una gran cantidad de papas fritas y cerveza. No podemos olvidar la cerveza.
Paul y yo declaramos esta cena la "ceniux maravillux perfectiux del siglo 20 y 21".
En serio, las fotos no le hacen justicia a los increíbles alimentos que consumimos.
Para el postre, comimos la crepa más sabrosa y deliciosa que sin duda superó las demás crepas que probamos en Francia.
Y la factura total fue de 48,00 dólares. Increíble.
Así que, si en algún momento terminan en Dusseldorf, Alemania, y sienten un apetito voraz, no hay mejor que este restaurant.

Post Vacation Troubles

Pushing this stroller here was a total arm workout...

There was a little problem with traveling around France before arriving in Switzerland for my little sister's wedding... we ate delicious, fresh, warm bread every day, during each meal.
Bread was simply always a staple during meal times and it was absolutely mouth-watering.
Then we arrived in Switzerland only to be welcomed with more delicious bread, potatoes and creamy pastas. And fine chocolate.
My taste buds were wildly overjoyed. Every day.
But then we returned to LA.
When we arrived home, I ran to the weight scale and literally freaked out.
I had gained several pounds and I didn't even know where to begin toward a new, weight loss/workout/lifestyle plan.
Yes I worked out while I was in Europe. But not nearly enough and that's the truth.
I preferred my title as a tourist more than the one of a relatively "fit" mommy.
I opted for the pretzel sandwiches over the Arugula salads.
I feasted on chocolate croissants for breakfast instead of fruit and yogurt.
And the desserts. Oh those desserts! I can't even continue.
So the day after returning from Europe, and before flying back to Washington DC to officially begin my work assignment, Paul and I decided to go for a workout early in the morning.
We went out to La Canada-Flintridge, which is quite hilly.
The first reality check: I was out of shape.
The second: It's going to take me quite a while to get to where I was.
But that's ok because I have no problem starting over. So here we go again.

Hubo un pequeño problema con viajar por Francia antes de llegar a Suiza para la boda de mi hermana menor... consumimos delicioso pan recién horneado y crujiente todos los días, en cada comida.
El pan siempre fue un elemento básico durante las comidas y bastante delicioso.
Luego llegamos a Suiza sólo para ser recibido con los más delicioso panes, papas y pastas cremosas y chocolate fino. Tampoco faltaron los vinos y licores.
Mi paladar se dio el ‘quien vive’…pero todos los días.
Pero entonces volvimos a Los Ángeles.
Cuando regresamos a casa, me encontré con la escala de peso y casi me desmayo.
Aumenté varias libras y ni siquiera sabía por dónde empezar hacia una nueva meta para pérdida de peso / entrenamiento y plan de estilo de vida.
Sí hice ejercicio mientras estuve en Europa. Pero la verdad es que no fue suficiente.
Y es que preferí mi título de turista más que el de una mamá relativamente "en forma".
Opté por los bocadillos y tortas de pretzel sobre las ensaladas de arúgula.
Me di un festín con croissants de chocolate para el desayuno en lugar de fruta y yogur.
Y los postres. ¡Dios mío, esos postres! Mejor aquí paro.
Así que el día después de regresar de Europa, y antes de volar a Washington DC para comenzar oficialmente mi trabajo asignado, Paul y yo decidimos salir a un entrenamiento tempranito.
Fuimos a la ciudad de La Cañada Flintridge-, que es bastante montañosa.
La primera observación: estaba fuera de forma.
La segunda: Que me iba a tomar un buen tiempo para llegar al peso que ya había logrado.
Pero está bien porque no tengo ningún problema con volver a empezar. Así que vamos de nuevo…al ejercicio.

Little Tikes Event for Pint Size Kids! (Toddler Tuesday)

There's nothing in the world that Benny loves more than a place full of toys and activities.
On a recent exploration stroll in a suburb of Washington DC, we came accross a school with an open campus that was full of Little Tikes playground sets.
The day was a bit gloomy and rain showers were in the forecast so no other children were out.
I'll just say Benny was in Playground Heaven.
He entered a small house and poured himself a cup of water (sound effects included).
He climbed a mini slide, entered a castle, climbed aboard a pirate ship and sat on a mini lunch table. Each of the activities had one thing in common: a label on the outer surface that read: "Little Tikes"
Little Tikes is an Ohio-based toy company established in 1969.
It's currently owned by MGA Entertainment but the brand continues staying true to its nature of manufacturing colorful and vibrant toy sets made of plastic materials and enjoyed by children of all ages.
And speaking of Little Tikes...

Benny enjoys an outing full of Little Tikes Outdoor Activity Sets

No hay nada en el mundo que a Benny le gusta más que un lugar lleno de juguetes y actividades.
En un reciente paseo de exploración en un suburbio de Washington DC, nos encontramos una escuela con un campus abierto, que estaba lleno de juegos infantiles de “Little Tikes”.
El día estaba un poco nublado y lluvias estaban en el prognostico del clima por lo que no otros niños estaban fuera.
Sólo les diré que Benny estaba en el país de las maravillas de juegos.
Entró en una pequeña casa y se sirvió un vaso de agua (con todo y el sonido del agua).
Subió un mini tobogán, entró en un castillo, se subió a bordo de un barco pirata y se sentó en una mesa de almuerzo. Cada una de las actividades tenían una cosa en común: una etiqueta en la superficie exterior que decía: "Little Tikes"
Little Tikes es una empresa de juguetes con sede en Ohio fundada en 1969.
En la actualidad es propiedad de MGA Entertainment, pero la marca sigue siendo fiel a su naturaleza de la fabricación de conjuntos de juguetes coloridos y vibrantes de materias plásticas para niños de todas las edades.

A great career move; a difficult mommy move

At this particular moment, I am juggling between typing this entry, feeding Benny Spaghetti with peas and blowing bubbles to keep him entertained.
We are hanging out in my living room, about a mile away from the White House.
We just got back from visiting the Museum of Natural History and visiting the Abraham Lincoln Memorial.
It's hot and humid outside but the weather is a reminder that this incredible experience is only temporary.
I moved to Washington DC for the summer, for work.

It's a great career opportunity, and one that my husband supported whole-heartedly.
But it was difficult leaving Benny behind.
Fortunately, he's here with me now-- and whaddaya know? I'm happy and joyous and inspired to blog again! It's like if having my little boy breaks me out of my "focus/work mode" and back to my multi-tasking mommy mode.
I've taken quite a long break from blogging, especially since I was posting on a daily basis before my move.
During the time I've been absent from "Do Tell, Anabel", I've traveled to Mexico, moved to DC and visited four countries in Europe, with the highlight being Switzerland, where my littler sister got married. 
So yeah, I have tons of material to share.
And this is my re-entry post, kinda' like a let's-see-how-I-feel-writing-again post.
And I think I'm feelin' it again.
So...check back daily for stories and tips on how to keep sane with work, travel, mommy duties and long-distance travels.

En este momento, estoy haciendo malabares con la escritura de esta entrada, la alimentación de Benny (comiendo espaguetis con chicharos) y el soplo de burbujas para entretener a mi hijito.
Estamos pasando el rato en la sala de mi departamento, a una milla de distancia de la Casa Blanca.
Acabamos de regresar del Museo de Historia Natural y de visitar el monumento de Abraham Lincoln.
Está caliente y húmedo fuera, pero el clima es un recordatorio de que esta increíble experiencia es sólo temporal.
Me mudé a Washington DC para el verano, por medio del trabajo.
Es una gran oportunidad en mi carrera, y más que mi marido me apoya de todo corazón.
Pero fue difícil dejar a Benny.
Afortunadamente, él está aquí conmigo ahora - y ¿a que no saben qué? ¡Estoy contenta y feliz e inspirada por regresar al blog! Es como si tener aquí a mi hijo pequeño me escapa de mi enfoque laboral y me regresa a mi estado de “mami multitareas”.
Me he tomado un largo descanso del blog, sobre todo porque ya estaba publicando a diario antes de mi mudanza.
Durante el tiempo que he estado ausente de "Do Tell, Anabel", he viajado a México, me trasladé a Washington DC y visité cuatro países en Europa, con el punto culminante en Suiza, donde mi hermana menor, se casó.
Así que tengo muchísimo material para compartir.
Y este es mi post de reingreso, como para ver cómo se siente regresar a la computadora de noche.
Y creo que será bastante refrescante volver a escribir diariamente.
Así que regresen seguido para leer historias y consejos sobre cómo mantener una mente sana con el trabajo, los viajes, las obligaciones de mamá y esposa y los viajes de larga distancia.
