Black & White in the Big Apple

My sister and I arrived on a Friday afternoon in New York City. The weather was perfect.
Then we woke up the next day to gloomy skies and heavy rains.
So the question soon became: “What should we wear!?”
I went with flats and white skinny jeans.
Then I raided my sister’s luggage and borrowed a comfy blouse and took her black hat. I also took her black cargo jacket in an attempt to stay dry.
In the end, I thought the outfit came together quite nicely, especially with a pair of big shades and Irene’s animal print clutch, which stored my umbrella and blush-colored lip gloss.
We walked to many places and I never once felt overdressed or uncomfortable.

Shopping for Kids in Times Square

If you thought dozens of famous cartoon character imitators walking around 42nd Street was enough to entertain toddlers, wait until they visit the Toys R Us Store in Times Square.
This has to be the biggest store of its kind with a Ferris wheel in the center and a Willy Wonka Candy Factory.
Toys R Us in NYC is a three-story establishment.
Spiderman is on site ready to take pictures with children.
Geoffrey the Giraffe, which is the Toys R Us mascot welcomes and sends off customers through the main entrance.
Hello Kitty has an entire wall to itself.
There are plenty on New York themed toys like the New York Barbie and toy yellow cabs of all sizes.
Plus, if you buy any Bronx Zoo themed toys, you are contributing 5% of the sale to help wildlife.
But just when you thought Toys R Us in New York City’s Times Square was everything, you walk a few blocks to Rockefeller Center and there's the Lego Store!
And a few streets over from the Lego Store is the American Girl doll store.
I’ll let the pictures tell the story…

I had fun finding toy stores all over Times Square!

The Disney Store in Times Square, NYC

A giant screen above the Times Square Disney Store plays Mickey cartoons
I am convinced that there’s no better Disney Store with region-themed merchandise than the one located in the heart of Times Square in New York City.

This Disney store is ginormous, with a very impressive selection of NYC gifts, including Minnie Mouse Statue of Liberty plush dolls, New York City pins, clothing items and scrapbooks, among other Disney-NYC goodies.

A walk around the first floor was all I needed to get me thinking about my next trip to Disneyland!

Stripes and All-Star Converse at the Happiest Place on Earth

It’s Fashion Friday!
Who says mommies can’t match their little boys?
On this Disneyland outing, Benny and I threw fashion out the window and went for comfort.
We wore red striped tops, white shorts and All-Star Converse.

I didn’t bring my Minnie ears with me to Anaheim but I did have a fun polka-dot hair bandana, which I bought at an accessories stand at the Ronald Reagan Airport in DC because it reminded me of Minnie Mouse.

These shoes have never really gone out-of-style since they were first produced in 1917. They were named the "All Star" after Converse's attempt to capture the basketball shoe market.

At the time, basketball player Chuck Taylor was a shoe salesman for Converse and helped improve the shoe's design. He later became the product's spokesperson and that’s why the shoes are also known as “Chucks” and “Chuck Taylors”. Today, they’re owned by Nike, who bought off the company in 2003.

Brunch at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel

We checked out Goofy’s Kitchen during our recent weekend at Disneyland.
The restaurant is located inside the Disneyland Hotel and reservations are highly recommended to ensure seating.
The restaurant is set up as a buffet with meal options that make children jump with joy!
On one side there are Mickey Waffles and Mickey pancakes. Then there’s Mac & Cheese pizza, chicken nuggets and hot dogs. For desserts, kids can enjoy fruit, cupcakes, ‘worms in dirt’ and the restaurant’s signature Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza (my favorite).
As far as the adults, on the day we visited, there was a salad and sandwich bar, a hot foods buffet with steak fajitas, baked ziti, sautéed vegetables, and other entrees.
An omelet bar was also open for those who wanted eggs for breakfast.
The highlight of the restaurant, however, is not the food but the opportunity to have Disney characters visit your table and join you for brunch.
Benny was particularly shy with Snow White and Alice but he tried playing with Pluto’s whiskers. LOL.
A breakfast/lunch meal at Goofy’s Kitchen is $39.99 per person but a 10% discount applies to annual passholders.

Finishing the Dumbo Double Dare 2014

A Sunday selfie, right before starting the half marathon

I ran a total of 19.3 miles in two days and became a “Dumbo Double Dare” finisher during the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend in Anaheim, CA.
It was a fun and exciting experience and I’m very glad I trained and pushed myself, although I swore I’d take a long break from running after this!
I purchased my registration for the races back in January.
On the day registration opened, I logged in and purchased the Dumbo Double Dare package for $320. Two hours later, it was completely sold out.
That’s when I realized how much people love to “RunDisney”.
A total of fifteen thousand runners lined up on race day, ready to put their bodies through a serious endurance test, all in the name of a Disneyland Medal.
Yeah, it was madness.
But do I recommend it? Absolutely.
Whether your motivation is to visit Mickey’s House & see the parade float warehouses and horse stables or simply because you want to get in shape and culminate your efforts at the happiest place on earth, it’s worth it.
After all, divide up $320 in eight months and that’s an average of $40 a month, which is easily spent on things like candy and take-out.
Here are my iPhone pictures of the half-marathon!

15,000 runners participated in the 2014 Disneyland Half Marathon

Dumbo the Flying Elephant was in full operation mode to motivate runners
Runners constantly stopped to take pictures in front of beautiful Disney backdrops
Around Mile 8 we ended up at the Angels Stadium, welcomed by cheering crowds

Many dressed in Dumbo-themed outfits
Performances along the way pumped my spirit and kept me going!
The best finish line greeter there ever was!
