Benny's Spaceship-Themed Birthday Party

When Benny's nina Irene bought him a toy spaceship from the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum over the summer, it was like a magical discovery for him. He had been going through an airplane phase but the small replica of the 'Shuttle Discovery' sparked a particular fascination in Benny that simply hasn't gone away! So it started becoming very clear that we had to throw a Spaceship-themed birthday party for my little boy.
We celebrated it over the weekend and the party itself was simple but fun; full of relatives, friends, kids and plenty of laughs. It was held at my parents' backyard, which is not too huge but very comfortable.
Now, because there aren't too many space shuttle themed party decorations out there, I had to get extra creative and so I made up some games: 1) Pin the Neil Armstrong on the Shuttle (like pin the tail on the donkey)  2) Hot Shuttle (like Hot Potato but with an inflatable shuttle) 3) How many meteorites fit in the astronaut's glove? (see picture below-- I wrapped a gardener's glove in white duct tape and the kids put it on to see how many marshmallows they could grab with the glove and land inside a narrow bowl) 3) Gravity Toss (I wrapped small baseballs in aluminum and kids had to try to throw them in buckets with different point values) 4) Moon Rock Search (like an Easter egg hunt but with aluminum wrapped eggs and outer space themed prizes inside)
I also created space shuttle rockets out of water bottles for the children to wear and my parents built a space shuttle out of PVC pipe, paper and cardboard for kids to play in.
The piñata looked more like an eagle than a space shuttle but we enjoyed watching the kids hit the heck out of it...LOL!

My little Astronaut turns 2!

Cuando la madrina de Benny le regaló una nave espacial del Museo Smithsonian este verano pasado, fue como un descubrimiento mágico para él.  Mi hijo ya había estado pasando por una etapa de obsesión por los aviones pero la pequeña réplica del transbordador ‘Shuttle Discovery ' provocó una fascinación especial en Benny que no se le ha pasado! Así que sin pensarlo mucho, supimos que teníamos que hacerle una fiesta de cumpleaños con temática de naves espaciales.

Celebramos el fin de semana y la fiesta estuvo sencilla pero divertida; llena de familiares, amigos, niños y muchas risas. Se celebró en el patio de la casa de mis padres, que no es muy grande, pero sí muy cómodo.

En la actualidad, no hay muchas decoraciones de transbordadores espaciales para fiestas, así que tuve que ponerme muy creativa e inventarme las dinámicas para los niños, que fueron las siguientes: 1 ) Ubicar al astronauta Neil Armstrong dentro de la nave ( como ponerle la cola al burro ) 2 ) Nave espacial en llamas (como la papa caliente pero con una nave inflable) 3 ) ¿Cuántos meteoritos puede agarrar el guante de astronauta? ( ver foto abajo) 3 ) El tiro de gravedad (donde se aventaban pelotitas a cubetas con distintos valores, de cinco a 100 puntos)  4 ) En búsqueda de las piedras lunares (como una búsqueda de huevos de Pascua pero con los huevos envueltos en aluminio con pequeños premios dentro)

También hice cohetes utilizando botellas de agua para que los niños jugaran y mis papás construyeron un transbordador espacial con tubería de PVC , papel y cartón.

La piñata parecía águila pero disfrutamos mucho ver a los niños romperla...risas!
