Shopping for a Christmas Tree with my two boys was tons of fun.

We usually like to support local business but this year, the ease of driving across the street to the huge Christmas Tree lot at Home Depot was way too tempting to pass up.

We chose a 6-7 ft. Douglas Fir and named him Spikey.

Did you know there are more than 35 different species of trees grown for their Christmas appeal?

According to Better Homes and Gardens, the six most popular trees are: Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Grand Fir, Virginia Pine and Scotch Pine.

This year, we stayed away from our white, shiny artificial tree because we wanted Benny to have the experience of picking out and smelling a fresh Christmas tree. Not to mention, real trees are 100% biodegradable and are recycled for many purposes after the holidays.

Reminder-- Don’t forget to water your tree and if you want to keep it healthy longer, don’t let the cut surface of the trunk be exposed to air for more than 3 hours.

Me divertí muchísimo la noche que fuimos a comprar el arbolito de navidad con mi hijo y mi esposo.

Por lo regular nos gusta apoyar el comercio local pero este año la proximidad y conveniencia de ir a cruzar la calle a la tienda Home Depot y comprar el arbolito de ahí nos convenció.

Escogimos un abeto Douglas y lo nombramos “Spikey”

¿Sabían ustedes que existen más de 35 especies de árboles que se cultivan para la navidad?

De acuerdo con la revista Better Homes and Gardens, los seis árboles más populares esta navidad son: El abeto Fraser, el abeto Douglas, el abeto Noble, el abeto Grand, el pino Virginia y el pino Escosés.

Este año decidimos ignorar nuestro árbol blanco, artificial y brilloso porque quisimos que Benny tuviera la experiencia de seleccionar y oler un árbol fresco. Además, los árboles naturales son cien por ciento biodegradables y al terminar las fiestas, se reciclan y se utilizan para varios propósitos.

Ojo: No se olviden de regar sus arbolitos y tomen en cuenta que para conservar su frescura, no deben exponer la parte cortada del tronco por más de tres horas.
