With our busy schedules, my husband and I decided a long time ago that we would give each other a break and dine out once a week.
Last week, in anticipation of our weekly dinner night out,  I came up with an activity to get my husband and son excited about going to a restaurant we had never visited before— a Treasure Hunt of sorts, where each clue disclosed a fun fact about the eatery!

First off, I made plans to go to Buffalo Wings and Rings in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
I got a bit crafty and the night before our outing, I created a few props that revealed hints about the restaurant.

Then I created clue cards, (each with a fact about Buffalo Wings and Rings) and situated them in different areas of the house. I laughed so hard watching the two run from one clue location to the next, trying to figure out what plans mommy had made for dinner!

The last clue location was inside the car, where a Buffalo mask awaited next to the big reveal!

When we arrived at Buffalo Wings and Rings, the first item that caught my eye was something called "Jack'd Up Wing AKA 'The Boss'" from their new menu! Without thinking twice, I ordered "The Boss" and I'll just say the combination of sweet, salty, spicy, crunchy and crispy flavors and textures was to die for!!!!!

The new Buffalo Wings and Rings menu offers "Ballpark Favorites"

From the menu description: Five boneless wings hand tossed in sweet Thai chili and sea salt caramel. Topped with applewood-smoked bacon crumbles, black sesame seeds and scallions-- garnished with caramel corn.

Paul ordered onion rings, a burger and a cold beer. Then we shared two different types of chicken wings. Mmmmmm.

The food was so yummy...I kid you not, every bite was exquisite. That's probably because every Buffalo Wings and Rings location serves fresh food, not frozen, and has a chef on staff in the kitchen to assure quality!
The restaurant also has a bar and plenty of screens showing different sports games…(Since we didn't sit at the bar, Paul would turn around every so often to check the baseball scores…teehee).
Now, dessert was incredible: Funnel Cake fries with fresh strawberries and Chocolate & Vanilla custard dipping sauces…WOW. These funnel cake fries are also featured in their new menu.

I have to say, for as much as my boys love watching sports and eating chicken wings, this was the perfect venue. And I feel like my treasure hunt set the tone. We even made plans to return in a few weeks…yay!

Have you ever tried something similar to get your family excited about visiting a new venue? Please share!

To make similar Buffalo Wings and Rings-themed props:
Cut several 2" strips of brown-colored felt fabric and roll into straws. Then bring the ends together and staple them!

For the buffalo mask, you can pull up the logo from the Buffalo Wings & Rings website and draw the head silhouette, on black foam paper. Then shape the white colored cutouts that make up the eyes and snout, as seen on the logo and glue over the buffalo face.

Paul was proud of my creation!

¡Yey!
