An alarming statistic states that over 75% of waste is recyclable but we only recycle about 30% every year.
My husband Paul and I are really big on recycling and not
only because we like to see how many dollars we’ll get out of our massive
clutter of old aluminum cans and plastic bottles, we actually care about our
environment.
That’s not to say we couldn’t be doing much more…I mean
there’s always room for improvement when it comes to caring for Mother
Nature…but if we can help it a little by recycling…we’re there!
On a recent outing to a nearby recycling center, my husband
Paul didn’t allow Benny or I near the sticky and gunky recyclables. He was
actually quite a gentleman and loaded, carried, sorted and cashed the bottles
all on his own. Benny boo stayed in the Jeep while mommy stepped out for a few
seconds to take pictures of dad. We shared a lot of laughs during this outing
and once I put my camera away, I carried Benny out and we both giggled at Paul
when he pulled the bins away (he made a duck sound).
This simple activity was a great way to spend some time
outside of the house and in the end we got approximately $30, which meant
dinner at Chilis.

Un dato
alarmante indica que más del 75 % de la basura es reciclable , pero solo
reciclamos el 30 % cada año.
A mi
marido Paul y a mi nos encanta reciclar y no sólo porque nos gustan los
dolaritos que recibimos por entregarle a alguien mas nuestra acumulación masiva
de latas de aluminio y botellas de plástico. La verdad es que nos preocupamos
por el medio ambiente.
Tampoco
estoy diciendo que hacemos un esfuerzo garrafal por cuidar a nuestra madre
naturaleza ... definitivamente podríamos hacer un poco mas en otros aspectos si
de veras le diéramos la dedicación al asunto ...pero si de reciclar se trata,
¡cuentan con nosotros!
En un
viaje reciente a un centro de reciclaje cercano, mi esposo Paul no permitió que
Benny o yo nos acercáramos a los botes que para ese entonces ya se encontraban apestosos y pegajosos . De hecho, Paul se portó
como todo un caballero y cargó, transportó , separó y fue a entregar y cobrar
las botellas sólo.
Benny se
quedó en el Jeep mientras yo salí a tomarle fotos a mi esposo.
Ese día
teníamos mucha risa y una vez que guardé la cámara, yo y Benny salimos a ver a
Paul llevarse los contenedores (al
alejarse hizo un sonido muy cómico).
Esta
sencilla actividad de reciclar fue una buena manera de distraernos fuera de casa
y en su momento, será buena lección para Benny. Al final recibimos
aproximadamente $ 30 dólares por los
artículos reciclables, lo cual significó una buena cena en el restaurante “Chilis”.
