Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel

 
This week my blog posts will be dedicated to everything revolving around the Tinkerbell Half Marathon, held recently at the Happiest Place on Earth. There’s so much that took place before, during and after the race that I think I’ll be able to pull off a blog entry for each day of the week.

Today I’ll talk about the pre-race registration and fitness expo at the Disneyland Hotel.

So every time there’s a big race event with thousands of runners, the hosting organization holds a fitness expo where they distribute race bibs, race timing chips and t-shirts to all participants and allow them an opportunity to shop for the latest in fitness gear.

The Tinkerbell Half Marathon fitness expo was no different and in typical Disney fashion, everything was very organized, despite the masses.

The main registration area was held in the parking garage beneath the Disneyland hotel and participants had to stand in line (organized by assigned bib number) in order to pick up their stuff. After registering, many headed up to the fitness expo, inside one of the hotel’s exhibition halls. When I got there, it was obvious the featured vendors know exactly what sells: anything Disney-themed!

For example, New Balance created a line of running shoes for Disney with different styles for different characters (the laces on the Cinderella sneakers are blue ribbons).  The demand for these tennis shoes was such that people without appointments weren’t even given a chance to try one on! There were Minnie Mouse tutus and Tinkerbell wings. There were medal hangers and shoe charms and I won’t even get into the official RunDisney merchandise because the waiting line to enter that section was beyond belief! Here are some images:

Esta semana dedicaree mi blog a todo lo referente al medio maratón de Campanita (Tinkerbell), que se llevó a cabo recientemente en el lugar más feliz del mundo. Hay tanto que sucedió antes, durante y después de la carrera que se me ocurrió que seria buena idea tocar diferentes temas del evento para cada día de la semana.

Hoy voy a hablar sobre el registro previo a la carrera y la exposición de productos atléticos en el Disneyland Hotel.

Y bien, cada vez que hay un carrera de esa magnitud, con miles de corredores, la organización anfitriona auspicia una expo de atletismo donde distribuyen los números de la carrera que deben portar los corredores, fichas de sincronización para monitorear el tiempo que dura el corredor en terminar la carrera y camisetas para los participantes y les permite la oportunidad de comprar lo último en productos de atletismo.

El Fitness Expo para el medio maratón de Campanita no fue la excepción. Y como es de esperarse de una empresa como Disney, todo estuvo muy bien organizado, a pesar de tanta gente.

La zona principal del registro fue en el estacionamiento debajo del Disneyland Hotel y los participantes tuvieron que hacer fila, las cuales fueron organizadas por el número asignado del corredor. Después del registro , muchos se dirigieron a la sala de exhibiciones del hotel. Cuando yo llegué allí , me di cuenta de una cosa, los vendedores saben exactamente lo que se vende como pan caliente: cualquier cosa con temática de Disney !

Por ejemplo , la marca de zapatos y ropa New Balance, creo una línea para Disney de zapatos para correr con diferentes estilos y con los famosos personajes ( las agujetas de los tenis de Cenicienta son listones de color azul…lindos). La demanda de estos tenis fue tal, que la gente que no tenia pudo hacer cita con tiempo, ni siquiera tuvo oportunidad de probarse uno de estos zapatos. Había faldas de Minnie Mouse y alas de Campanita . Había clavijeros como para colgar medallas y bueno, ni siquiera voy a decirles de la mercancía de la marca oficial “RunDisney” porque la línea de espera para entrar a esa sección estaba larguísima!
