Dolcezza-- A Unique DC Gelato

I was craving a cold dessert one hot summer night.
So I went to the grocery store looking for a small tub of nice, creamy ice cream.
I found a brand called Dolcezza. The flavors were hand-written on the container and the labeling indicated the gelato was made locally, meaning here in D.C.
I bought the blackberries & cream and was immediately addicted. It’s splendidly delightful. It was so delightful that I embarked on a journey to find the creamery and learn more about it.
The Dolcezza Factory is located at 550 Penn St. NE. in Washington DC and offers weekend tours.
The most impressive thing about this gelato is that the company picks up the milk and cream the same day it is bottled from the Perry brothers dairy farm in York, Pennsylvania.
They juice their citrus one by one on an old school hand-crank juicer.
They grind Virginia peanuts to make their own peanut butter.
They work with strawberries only 4 – 5 weeks per year, the ephemeral window of the Virginia/Pennsylvania strawberry season.
And they constantly tweak their recipes based on where the fruit is at throughout the season.
A must-have for ANYONE in the Washington DC Area.
Cheers,
AM

Saludos,
AM
